Want to drive longer distances without frequent recharging of your i3 battery or worrying about how much gas you have left? Our BMW i3 coding for cars with REx will make it possible by displaying your gas tank capacity accurately and activating 'hold battery charge' mode.

US versions of the i3 REx are much more limited in using their gas engines compared to the European versions, but with BMW i3 REx coding you can display your i3's true fuel level — up to an extra half-gallon over the electronically limited reading! 

Hold battery charge

Add on top of that an adjustment of the Range extender option and you'll be able to switch on the 'hold battery charge' mode whenever you’re at 75% of charge or less. 

How does that work in a nutshell? The Range extender produces the same amount of power for the battery as is being consumed – doing so your car will conserve the battery energy, instead of using it up. Once the Range extender option is activated, you can set your vehicle to hold its state of charge starting at 75% or less. If your i3 isn’t able to hold its charge, it will still run the engine and use the battery for any extra power required.

Keep in mind  that the Range extender option is something you can activate or deactivate any time you want in your iDrive menu settings.

BMW i3 REx coding is carried out via a remote cable coding session. It is a very simple process that takes no more than 30 minutes. After you complete your order, we send you a coding cable (if you don't have one and add it in the top Option section). Once you receive it, you will be able to schedule a coding session for the time that suits you best. During the session, just plug in the cable, follow the instructions from our technician and he’ll take care of the coding for you.

To prepare for your coding session you will need a laptop running Microsoft Windows and a WiFi internet network that you can connect to in your car. A Mac computer running Windows should work too, but it may not be compatible with some E-series vehicles. The coding cable must be plugged into a regular USB port.
